We would like to present Slovenia and Ljubljana to Megaconference and at the same time, present how our students aged 15-19 years old, work with patients and take care of their needs.

E-Learning Café:
The overall aim of this project is to start creating a set of new dynamic learning spaces that integrate social and study activities and that constitute a strategic relational dimension for all the people working or studying at the University of Porto (UP). In this context, the design of this space has made use of ICT for creating a rich communicational and learning environment, i.e., wireless networking, access to collaborative software, power source for mobile computing devices and other functionalities. Thus the program of this e-learning caf? and its spatial configuration and Internet site aims to encourage several types of group interaction, both for socializing and studying, to promote interdisciplinary exchange of knowledge and experience and to offer people a set of diverse social and cultural events such as courses, readings, performances, workshops, etc. One important characteristic of this environment is its physical and virtual nature (the building and its Internet site), which, linked together, create a richer relational dimension. The result is communication between people who may be seated far apart and a strong interrelation of ICT with space design, allowing for different types of spatial use and functions.

Freedom Calls provides state of the art communications capability including internet access, telephone services and enterprise class video conferencing
services to military families and their loved ones serving on the front lines free of charge. Military families share milestone family
moments such as new births, marriages, anniversaries, graduations, adoption proceddings, parent teacher meetings, marriage counseling etc. face to face 2,000 times per month and save $250,000 per month in telephone charges.

Dakota Coteau field school :
The Dakota Coteau Field School is located in the heart of the Missouri Coteau in North Dakota. It has been selected as the headquarters for the Northern Plains National Ecological Observatory Network, which will collect data from a six-state Region to evaluate global climate change across the United States. It will feature a field station, school and interpretive center, enabling researchers to make significant progress in the natural sciences, enhancing science education of our youth, and promoting economic growth by increasing nature-based tourism. This session will introduce the field school and provide a virtual tour.

Flag Of Earth:
A map will show where the Flag Of Earth first started, with some nice photos of FOE in various places such as Harvard's satellite receiver, SETI, Illinois farm, kitchen table. I will talk about Jim's efforts to be sure it was perceived as truly being of the earth rather than a US version of a flag for the earth, along with the history of getting started.
I plan to have a world map to show where the flag was created, and all the places in the world where the flag is/has flown. I will be reading the Glag of Earth poem.

Read Around the Planet:
TWICE is Michigan's K12 videoconference organization with a volunteer board of mostly education service center and school district personnel. This presentation will give an overview of how TWICE's signature event, Read Around the Planet, formerly known as Read Across America. This project matches K-12 classrooms to celebrate reading on dates around Dr. Seuss' birthday (March 2), annually since 2002. In addition, we'll share information on Collaborations Around the Planet, a social networking tool built on the registration system for Read Around the Planet. Participants will learn how to use this tool effectively to find and plan collaborative videoconference projects with partners around the world.
We'll also connect to one or two classrooms to model a Read Around the Planet interaction.

Summer Institute '07, Quick Studies:
The presenters are Brian Windsor and Peter Carswell. We will be presenting a multi-player network game designed and programmed by five high school students during the two weeks of OSC's Summer Institure. We will be discussing the challenges of teaching programming techniques to new programmers in a short period of time. We are currently consulting with off-site institutions to simulaneiously participate in the game during our presentation.

Distance Counseling; A Live Demonstration:
Distance counseling, especially that which is facilitated by videoconferencing over the Internet, is a new development in the field of counseling and therapy and has the potential to revolutionize how counseling is delivered. A live demonstration of a distance counseling will occur, followed by an interview and then engage the Megaconference audience in discussing their reactions to the session.

Providing Videoconferencing Services within a Learning Commons:
The University of Tennessee's Libraries together with its Office of Information Technology recently opened a Learning Commons integrating both Library and IT services. One of our goals in creating the Commons was to provide faculty and students with the capacity for easy-to-use, easy-to-manage videoconferencing. Our presentation will include IT and Library personnel talking about how this was achieved, and our plans for the future. Also included in our panel will be Dr. Jenn Fishman, Professor of English, who recently received a Ready for the World grant (http://sunsite.utk.edu/clm/) for her work with Escuela Nueva International and Dr. Gavin Luter from the Howard Baker Center for Public Policy. Dr. Fishman and Dr. Luter will speak briefly about how they are using the videoconferencing facilities in the Commons to promote international collaboration and learning.

Voices - A New telematic/Intermedial Theatre Project:
This session will present a short overview / history of telematic theatre productions created at Bradley University in collaboration with other I2 institutions and share information about the development of VOICES: An original theatrical work focused on genocide awareness that takes advantage of intermedial theatre techniques and internet connectivity to bring performers together from around the world; Africa, Asia and the Pacific Rim, the Middle East, South America, North America, and Europe; to develop, rehearse, and perform for a globally connected audience in real time.

Connecting Rural Ohio: The Role of Satellite-Based Internet Connectivity for Rural Community Wireless Networks:
The presentation will provide an overview of the basics on geostationary commercial satellite communications, and the role of satellite-based Internet technology for broadband delivery to disadvantaged populations in remote rural locations will be addressed. The discussion will include a case study on the development of rural community networks using 802.11b wireless technology at both 2400 and 900 MHz. A PC-based training center, and many courses from a variety of organizations have been provided, in response to the workforce development and the informational technology literacy needs of the community. The presentation will conclude with a preliminary assessment of the outcomes, impact and benefits for rural Appalachian communities.

Global Agents of Change:
Global Nomads Group is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to fostering dialogue and understanding among the world's youth using interactive technology. We would like to present an interaction that demonstrates the power of videoconferencing in enlightening the world's youth about our global community and encouraging them to be agents of positive social change. From our New York headquarters, we will link to a group of students in Virginia Beach who participated in a virtual learning videoconference with students in Uganda last spring. After meeting their peers in Northern Uganda and hearing their stories of abduction and fighting, these Virginian students were moved to help. They are currently spearheading a comprehensive fundraising campaign, along with several schools throughout the United States and Canada, to build a chemistry lab for a school in Padibe, a community full of Internally Displaced People.

Buddhist Monks: Religious Men on a Dangerous Mission:
In this presentation the Global Consortium will showcase its partnerships with the U.S. Campaign for Burma, the protests of Buddhist monks who will be in house, and the political and social protests of Louisa Benson Craig. Ms. Craig was Ms. Burma twice in the 1950s, a movie star, and now, deemed an enemy of Burma by the militaty junta in Myanmar. The Global Consortium will illustrate that this symbiotic relationship with many partners can make a tangible result in Burma.

Dr. Bob will wear a variety of hats which are replicas of those worn by famous people in history and culture. The audience will be asked to guess who the famous person is for each hat. Progressively more definite hints will be given until each mystery hat is identified.

The Solid School Life in Taiwan:
Goals: By exploring a one-day school life in Kuo-Kwang High School and introducing one of our annual biggest events, we hope that foreign students are able to realize a different school culture. Furthermore, we hope to make better global connections by enhancing foreign students' understanding toward Taiwanese teenagers.

Troyd Geist, North Dakota State Folklorist, will introduce this session and discuss how we in North Dakota are helping preserve ancient traditions through modern technology.
