Presentation Name: Welcome to Visit the Paleozoological Museum of China
Presentation Abstract:
Founded by and affiliated to the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology(IVPP), the Paleozoological Museum of China(PMC) is currently the sole natural science museum that is exclusively devoted to systematically popularizing knowledge of paleontology, paleoecology, paleoanthropology and the theory of evolution. It is also the largest paleontological museum in Asia.

The Museum is divided into two sub-museums: Museum of Vertebrate Paleontology and the Shu-hua Museum of Paleoanthropology. The former includes three exhibit halls: Fossil Fish and Amphibian Hall, Fossil Reptile and Bird Hall, and Fossil Mammal Hall; the latter Fossil Hominid and Artifact Hall. Drawn from the IVPP's rich collections, the Museum's 800 plus exhibit items represent a wide spectrum of vertebrate fossils from jawless 'fishes' to humans and their artifacts, spanning from Cambrian (530 million years ago) to Prehistoric time (10,000 years ago).

Among the Museum's proud exhibit items are Latimeria, a "living fossil" lobe-finned fish and a gift from Comoran government; Mamenchisaurus, China's largest dinosaur thus known; Lufengosaurus huenei, the first dinosaur occurred in China; and Stegodon zdanski, commonly known as "The Yellow River elephant", and has made into the elementary school's textbook in China.

More recently, the exquisite fossils of the Jehol Biota have been added to the exhibit, which include the feathered dinosaurs (e.g., "four-winged" dinosaur), birds (e.g., Confuciusornis), and pterosaurs (one of them being the first known embryo fossil in the world).

The Museum also has extended educational programs for school children through "Young Darwin Club" and provides the participants with the opportunities to field excursions, fossil collecting and preparations, cast making as well as special workshops. The museum has also equipped with multimedia and interactive games for children and adults alike.

The second presentation will be presented by Mr. Wang Yuan, who is the head of the Museum. The video file of this program will uploaded in Nov. 1.
