_Song-game 1_
"Nandu uuradoo, nari uuradoo"
("Crab running, fox running")
This is a "One little piggy, two little piggy"
type activity.
This song-game has five stages:
a)
The speaker, with her right hand, points to
a finger on her own left hand, and she says:
"arisi" (rice).
She points to the next finger, and says:
"sambar" (vegatable stew).
She points to the next finger, and says:
"chutney" (a condiment).
She points to the next finger, and says:
"rasam" (a condiment).
b)
The speaker pretends to mix the food,
with her right elbow in her left palm.
c)
The speaker, using her right hand, pretends
to give some food to a listener, while saying:
"Give some to tam-bi" (younger brother),
"Give some to tun-ga-chi" (younger sister), etc.
d)
The speaker, using her right hand, finger-walks
up the right arm of the listener, and finally
tickles the listener's right armpit, while she
says:
"Nandu uuradoo, nari uuradoo"
(Crab running, fox running)
The listener usually giggles, and squirms to
escape.
For this song-game, if possible, I would request --
at the requested moment -- for one viewer (whom we
in Chennai would be able to see) -- or perhaps for all
viewers -- to extend their right hand towards their
camera and/or monitor; and we would simulate that
the child in Chennai is playing the song-game on
each outstretched hand.

_Song-game 2_
The speaker says a line (as she taps her
outstretched fingers on the ground), and
the listeners do the same --
"Kakka, kakka, para para"
(crow, crow, fly fly)
"Mayil, mayil, para para"
(peacock, peacock, fly fly)
"Kili, kili, para para"
(parrot, parrot, fly fly)
etc.
The listeners repeat each line, and also tap
their fingers, which are extended forward, on
the floor. If a listener repeats a line such
as the following -- for something other than
a bird -- she is "out":
"Nye, nye, para para"
("nye" is pronounced like "dye")
(dog, dog, fly fly)
I think of this as a "Simon says" type activity
(in both games, if the listener repeats the word
and movement automatically, without the proper
conditions, she is "out").

_Song-game 3_
"Acka packa"
(I don't have all the words yet)
This is a counting-out game, with fingers on the
floor in a circle.
This is an "Eeny, meeny, miney, mo" type activity.

_Song-game 4_
"Kolaiya, kolaiya, munthirukka"
("Cashewnut, cashewnut, a bunch")
This is a "Duck, duck, goose" type activity.

_Song-game 5_
"Oru kudam thanni"
("One bucket of water")
This is a "London Bridges" type activity
(while the singing occurs, a line goes through
an arch -- both formed by children).
